The no scalpel vasectomy is simply an improved technique to perform a vasectomy. It allows the vasectomy to be performed through a single midline puncture. The procedure is quicker (usually 12-25 minutes), less traumatic, and results in shorter healing time and fewer complications than the conventional vasectomy. The end result of a no scalpel vasectomy is the same as the conventional vasectomy, simply easier and less traumatic! No sutures or stitches are required.
ACOG Practice Bulletin PB 133 Benefits and Risks of Sterilization:
“In comparison with the incisional technique, the no-scalpel vasectomy technique has a lower incidence of hematoma formation, infection, and pain and has a shorter operative time.”
